Tomorrow, October 29th, is World Psoriasis Day. This year it features a special campaign including web-based documentaries on living with the condition.
The campaign is an initiative of the International Federation of Psoriasis Associations and the Psoriasis Association of Ireland.
Over 100,000 people in Ireland are living with some form of psoriasis, a chronic autoimmune disorder in which lesions appear on the skin.
Caroline Irwin, Chairperson of the Psoriasis Association, has stressed that it is very important for others to provide support to people suffering from the condition .
"It is encouraging to know that those closest to people living with psoriasis are providing much needed support and relief from the stigma that still surrounds the condition. I would encourage anyone supporting someone with psoriasis to learn to cope by taking time out for yourself and talking to someone that you know and trust."
According to consultant dermatologist Dr Brian Kirby, people with psoriasis should discuss the latest treatment options with their doctor and to learn to manage the clinical symptoms of the disease to improve both their and their family's long-term quality of life.
