StrokeLINK is a unique support service for patients at the Mater Hospital who are transitioning home from hospital after stroke. The service is designed to empower patients to do the things that will speed up their recovery and keep them well at home.
A new website – strokelink.ie – has recently been launched. It aims to provide patients and families with supportive information and videos on how to live well after their stroke. The Mater stroke team co-developed expert content about stroke, stroke recovery, how to manage stroke, advice for family and carers and available resources in the community.
One-in-five people will experience a stroke at some time in their life, and the results can be life-changing for patients and families. Many second strokes and complications are preventable through better patient education and empowerment. This enables patients to take control of their own recovery and develop healthy lifestyle habits.
The StrokeLINK service also includes a video series for patients and carers and a Living Well book.
The project was led by the Mater Hospital Stroke and Transformation teams along with the National College of Art and Design Interaction Design. Funding is being provided by Sláintecare, Public Service Innovation Fund, HSE Spark Innovation and the National Stroke Programme.
