A further 47 deaths from COVID-19 have been confirmed, as well as 901 new cases of the virus.

This brings the total number of deaths here to 4,082 and the total number of cases to 212,647.

Of the 47 additional deaths announced, 44 occurred in February, two in January and one in December.

Of the 901 new cases, 437 occurred in Dublin - that is almost 49% of these cases. A further 49 occurred in Limerick, 43 in Galway, 39 in Kildare and 32 in Meath.

As of 8am on Thursday, there were 771 patients with confirmed COVID-19 in hospital, 151 of whom were in ICU. There had been an additional 48 hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

As of February 15, a total of 280,581 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered - 182,193 first doses and 98,388 second doses.

Earlier, the CEO of the HSE, Paul Reid, said that the country is on track to complete 80,000 vaccinations this week. He also acknowledged that the pace that Ireland is exiting this third wave "is a lot slower than the scale and pace that we entered".
