ECDC reports small increase in Covid transmission

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has reported small increases in SARS-CoV-2 transmission in the European Union and European Economic Area.

In early September, increasing SARS-CoV-2 transmission had been reported by more than half of EU/EEA countries, according to the infectious diseases agency.

Despite this, deaths as a result of the virus remain low compared to the early years of the pandemic.

"It is particularly important to keep a close eye on Covid-19 in older age groups," the ECDC said in a statement. "We also anticipate a resurgence of seasonal influenza and RSV."
