A workshop which aims to help people improve their mental health is now available online.
The Wellness Workshops were developed by Suicide or Survive (SOS), a charity which is working to reduce the stigma attached to mental health issues.
SOS has been running these workshops nationwide over the last five years. A recent survey by Trinity College Dublin on their effectiveness found that three in four participants had seen a big improvement in their mental wellbeing and this improvement persisted over time.
Almost 500 people took part in the survey - mostly members of the general public - but also 69 male prisoners in Dublin's Wheatfield Prison.
Half of those attending the workshops had suffered with mental health problems and their main motivation for attending was to learn new skills to manage these problems.
"We are extremely excited to bring our wellness programme online. Our Wellness Workshops are focused on wellbeing and prevention. It's important that we all understand that each and every one of us has a personal journey to mental wellness and at SOS we want to equip people with the necessary skills and tools so that everyone can maintain this wellness," commented SOS chief executive, Caroline McGuigan.
She said that the charity was ‘delighted' with the results of the Trinity survey, as they were ‘overwhelmingly positive'.
"Our workshop contains a universal message of wellness and practical tools that anyone can use whatever their circumstances. With the launch of the workshops online we hope to be able to reach and impact on even more people's lives," she added.
The online workshops are available for anyone to use here
