More than three out of four people believe the workplace smoking ban, now 10 years in place, has benefited public health in Ireland.
Ireland was the first country in Europe to introduce a workplace smoking ban, which includes a ban on smoking in pubs and restaurants. Since then, many other countries have followed suit with similar bans.
The Irish Cancer Society recently announced that the smoking prevalence rate in Ireland has dropped from 28.86% in March 2004 to 21.71% in December 2012, a decrease in smoking rates of nearly a quarter in 10 years.
The Irish Heart Foundation has said the smoking ban has contributed to a 10% drop in the number of heart attacks over the past decade.
We asked readers whether they thought the workplace smoking ban has benefited public health in Ireland.
Seventy-eight per cent said yes, only six per cent said no, while 16% weren't sure.
