  • Secondary school students are being challenged to come up with their own healthier versions of takeaway food.

The cookery competition - Takeaway My Way - has been launched by Safefood in an attempt to encourage young people to cook and eat healthier foods.

"Learning to cook and eat healthily are skills that can last students a lifetime and we would encourage all students, whether studying home economics or not, to grab an apron, pick their favourite takeaway dish, show us their passion for food and enter the competition," said Fiona Gilligan of Safefood.

This is the third year the competition has been held and it is open to all post-primary students in the Republic and Northern Ireland.

The closing date for entries is February 22 and 32 finalists will be selected to cook their dishes at an all-island final in May. Prizes include iPads and vouchers for cooking equipment.

Students can submit their recipes online. For more information or to see last year's winning recipes, click here.
