Members of the public will be given a rare opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes look at cancer research which is currently taking place in Dublin's Trinity College.

The college is holding a special public symposium this week, which aims to show people the research work that is currently underway, and give them the opportunity to hear from some of the scientists involved in this important work.

The event will include talks by some of Trinity's leading researchers, such as Dr David Finlay, whose work on natural killer cells versus cancer was recently published in the journal, Nature Immunology.

Those attending will then be invited into the laboratory to see how the researchers actually do their work.

Other topics de to be covered include swallowing difficulties in cancer and liver anti-tumour immune cells.

The event has been organised as part of the fourth annual Cancer Week Ireland, which runs from September 25 to October 1. It takes place on Friday, September 29 at the Stanley Quek lecture theatre on level one of the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute on Pearse Street, Dublin 2, from 4pm to 6.30pm.
