  • Dublin's three children's hospitals are advising patients and their families that some outpatient clinics, elective procedures and routine procedures, which were scheduled for today (February 28), have been cancelled.

Met Eireann has issued a Status Red weather warning for Dublin, Meath, Kildare, Louth and Wicklow, after heavy snowfalls on Tuesday night led to accumulations of snow of up to 16cm in some areas.

In a joint statement, Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin, Temple Street Children's Hospital and the National Children's Hospital at Tallaght Hospital assured people that their Emergency Departments (EDs) are still open and anyone who attends will be seen.

The hospitals also said that while some clinics and procedures have been cancelled, ‘if patients present to the three hospitals, they will be seen'.

"All appointments cancelled during the period will be rescheduled as a priority and patients will be advised of their new appointment directly by their relevant hospital," the statement explained.

People are asked to check the hospitals' websites for more details.

The hospitals are working together to ensure that essential services are maintained during this period.

"We are monitoring the situation closely and are in constant contact with the HSE to ensure cooperation and support for our patients and their families at this time," the hospitals said.

An update on the services expected to be available on Thursday (March 1) is due later today.
