The HSE has launched a probe into the death of a baby at Cavan General Hospital - the second such death at the hospital in the past month.

The health executive confirmed that a baby born on Tuesday died in the hospital yesterday and said a full review of the circumstances surrounding the death will be undertaken.

The HSE offered its deepest sympathy to the family of the infant.

A separate review is being carried into the death of another baby at the hospital on April 26.
