A primary school in Dublin has sent home one of its classes for the next 14 days after a student tested positive for COVID-19.

The school had only reopened on August 26, almost six months after all schools were closed due to the virus.

The principal earlier told RTÉ that the class had been sent home as a precautionary measure and this decision was based on public health advice. The principal also pointed out that the child did not contract the virus in the school.

The pupils have been asked to restrict their movements for the next 14 days and it is understood that they will undertake zoom lessons during this time.

If any of them develop symptoms over the next two weeks, they are advised to contact their GP.

However, the siblings of students in this class can still attend school unless they develop symptoms or are directed to stay at home by public health officials.
