One more person with COVID-19 has died in the Republic.

Three deaths that had previously been classed as COVID-related have been denotified, so the total number of deaths here now stands at 1,650.

Seventy-seven new cases of the virus have also been confirmed, bringing the total number of cases here to 25,062.

Data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre has shown that of the 24,985 cases reported to it as of midnight on May 30, 3,286 have been hospitalised. Of these, 408 have been admitted to ICU.

Some 7,968 cases are associated with healthcare workers, which is almost 32% of all cases.

"We have now had more than 25,000 cases of COVID-19 in Ireland and while 90% of patients have recovered, more than 3,285 people have been hospitalised and sadly 1,650 have died.

"COVID-19 is a new disease, for which we have no vaccine and we have no cure. As restrictions ease and we begin to resume social and economic life, we must do all we can to prevent a second wave," commented the Department of Health's chief medical officer, Dr Tony Holohan.

He urged people to continue to practise hand and cough hygiene, to continue social distancing and to use face covering in appropriate settings.

"It is also important to give space to our vulnerable people when out and about. We must continue to do all we can to interrupt the spread of this virus," Dr Holohan added.

There are currently 331 cases of confirmed or suspected COVID-19 in hospitals nationwide, including 36 in ICU with confirmed COVID-19.
