Some 60% of adults in Ireland have already downloaded the Government's COVID-19 Tracker app, while 67% said they would avail of a vaccine if one was to become available, a new survey has found.
According to the findings, 80% of people said that their physical health remained good during the lockdown, however almost 40% said their mental health was poor or average.
The survey focused on the role of broadband in relation to health and wellbeing. It involved 2,000 people and was carried out in mid-July. At that time, 60% of people said they had already downloaded the COVID-19 Tracker app and a further 22% planned to do so.
When it came to mental health, 20% gave theirs a low rating during lockdown, while 17% said it was only average.
Many people used online services for advice, information and support. Some 22% had accessed blogs and websites about mental health and wellbeing, while 14% had watched videos offering advice and coping skills.
Some 14% had consulted a doctor or other healthcare professional, or had received counselling or other support services using online video meeting technology. A further 37% said they are likely or highly likely to seek support in this way in the future.
Meanwhile, 65% of those surveyed said that they had taken part in online training and fitness classes more often than they usually would, while 30% said they will continue this in the future.
Some 60% said they had also participated more often in health competitions against family, friends and colleagues, using devices like Fitbits to count steps or complete other fitness challenges. Of these, 30% said they will continue to do this in the future.
The survey was carried out on behalf of Virgin Media Ireland by Amárach Consulting.
