HEALTH SERVICES
Most favour health spend rise over tax cut

Nearly two out of three people want the Government to prioritise additional investment in the health service ahead of granting tax cuts, according to our latest poll.
Tax cuts are expected to be announced in the 2015 Budget later today, while the HSE is running up a deficit of around €500 million this year and health services are suffering after six years of expenditure cuts.
Health Minister Leo Varadkar has reportedly been fighting at the Cabinet table for a bigger share of the expenditure cake for health.
With expenditure details for the health service due to be announced later today by Minister Varadkar, we asked readers whether the Government should delay tax cuts and instead avail of the improving economic situation toinvest more in the health service.
In our poll, nearly two-thirds of respondents, 63%, said health spending should take precedence over tax cuts, while 26% felt the opposite should be the case, and 11% were unsure.
