A majority of people believe that the Government was right to include suicide risk in the provisions of its new abortion legislation, according to our latest poll.
Prior to the drawing up of the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill, there had been calls in some quarters for the suicide issue to be 'parked' as part of the new legislation.
This was despite the issue of suicide as a real and substantial threat to the life of a pregnant woman having been an key part of the X Case ruling.
The Government, however, decided to include suicide ideation as a condition to be assessed for possible termination under the provisions of the Bill.
We asked readers whether they thought it was correct to include suicide risk in the legislation.
Fifty three per cent said yes, while 41% said no and 6% were unsure.
