Major restrictions at Rotunda
May 16, 2011
-
Women attending the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin - one of the country's busiest maternity hospitals - have been warned that they may face major difficulties accessing it tomorrow, as a result of Queen Elizabeth's visit.
The Queen is due to attend a wreath laying ceremony at the Garden of Remembrance on Parnell Square East on Tuesday morning. The garden backs on to the hospital. As a result, a major security operation is in place in that part of the city, which includes road closures and diverted routes.
There will be diverted routes into the hospital and it is understood that hundreds of routine appointments, such as routine scans, have been postponed as a result.
According to the hospital's master, Dr Sam Coulter-Smith, it has been ‘significantly affected' by the arrangements. However, it has been agreed with Gardai that if someone is in labour, access routes will be provided.
More information on the various restrictions associated with the Queen's visit are available on the Garda website here
