Majella O'Donnell has revealed that she has undergone a double mastectomy.
The wife of singer Daniel O'Donnell was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and underwent a lumpectomy last July. She then began chemotherapy in September. However, she has now revealed that she has undergone a double mastectomy with reconstruction in recent days.
Ms O'Donnell helped to raise around €600,000 for the Irish Cancer Society last year when she allowed her hair to be shaved off live on The Late Late Show. She also recently launched the society's annual fundraiser, Daffodil Day, which will take place on March 28.
Writing on her husband's website, she admitted that the last seven months have been ‘very difficult' due to her diagnosis of breast cancer and the sudden death of her father.
However, she said at the moment she ‘feels great', adding that ‘its so good to be this far down the road and to know that all I have to do now is rest and heal'.
"I can honestly say that I'm out the ‘other side' and in good health again," she said.
She also emphasised how grateful she is for all the good wishes she has received.
"Please forgive me for not answering you all personally but it would have been impossible. There have been thousands of communications and every one was so sincerely appreciated and welcomed. I don't want to go on about it too much but please know that I will never forget your kindness," she said.
