Children under the age of six can be registered for free GP care from today.
From July 1, all children in the State who are aged five and under will be eligible for free GP care, but parents can register their children's details from today using an online registration system.
Figures from the HSE last Wednesday revealed that 53% of GPs had signed up for the scheme, with the highest sign-up in Donegal (93%) and the lowest in south Tipperary (8%).
By Friday evening, the overall figure had reached 59%, with Donegal still at the top of the list (94%) and south Tipperary still at the bottom (8%).
In Dublin, the highest sign-up was among GPs in west Dublin (71%), while the lowest was in Dublin south east (38%).
The online registration system contains the names of all GPs who are taking part in this scheme, and it will be updated regularly as more doctors register. Anyone who cannot find the name of their GP on the list is asked to contact their local practice directly.
