  • Over half of Irish people view January as the most depressing month of the year, a new survey has found.

According to the findings, 56% of people feel that January is the most depressing month and this increases to 60% among those aged between 18 and 34.

The most common reasons for this were bad weather, dark mornings and evenings, having to return to work, financial worries and having to take down Christmas decorations.

The second most depressing month was November (16%), followed by February (10%) and December (10%).

Among those who said they disliked winter in general, bad weather and a lack of natural light were the most common reasons.

The survey of 1,001 people also noted that following Christmas, 51% of people under the age of 34 feel low and deflated, compared to just 29% of those over the age of 55.

The survey was carried out by iReach Insights last month.
