Irishhealth.com is urging people to vote yes in the referendum on Friday, May 25, to protect the health and wellbeing of women.
The referendum is seeking to repeal and replace the 8th Amendment to the Constitution, which acknowledges the right to life of the unborn, equating it with the right to life of its mother.
If approved, Article 40.3.3, known as the 8th Amendment, will be removed in its entirety and replaced with a new Article 40.3.3., which states that ‘Provision may be made by law for the regulation of termination of pregnancy'.
Subsequent legislation for abortion would then be proposed and passed by the Oireachtas in the usual manner.
