  • Almost two in three Irish people say they feel less attractive than people from other countries because of their skin tone, a new survey has found.

According to the findings, half of Irish people describe their skin tone as pale, while almost three in four say they have a ‘pink twinge' to their skin. At least one in eight Irish people say they dislike their skin entirely.

Meanwhile, the survey also found that one in three Irish people consider wrinkles to be their biggest skin issue, while one in five worry about brown spots and red veins on their skin.

The findings suggest that men and women feel differently about their skin, with eight in 10 men embracing their natural skin, compared to just over half of women. One in three women said they sometimes use sunbeds, while one in 10 said they cannot live without make-up, sunbeds and tanning lotion.

Furthermore, almost one in four women said they never let their partners see them without their make-up on.

Despite these apparent skin insecurities, the survey notes that almost six in 10 people have never actually received negative comments about their skin. One-third received the odd comment growing up, but did not view this as a major issue.

When it comes to freckles, almost nine in 10 people are happy with theirs, however one in 10 said they hate them and try to cover them up.

The survey of 250 people aged between 18 and 65 was carried out in March by MRNI Research on behalf of Thérapie Clinic.
