GENERAL MEDICINE
Information day on endometriosis
March 7, 2013
-
An information day on endometriosis - a painful condition that can lead to infertility - is being held in Dublin this weekend.
Endometriosis is a condition in which the lining of the womb - the endometrium - grows outside the womb. It can be intensely painful and symptoms include unusually heavy periods and difficulty getting pregnant. It affects around 10% of women.
This month is International Endometriosis Awareness Month and as part of this, the Endometriosis Association of Ireland (EAI) is holding an information day this Saturday.
The event will be launched by best-selling author, Anna McPartlin, who has spoken publicly about her own experiences of having the condition.
Other guest speakers will include consultant gynaecological surgeon at the Galway Clinic, Mr Mo'iad Alazzam and Kathleen King, a medical laboratory scientist at Letterkenny General Hospital. Ms King is also a practitioner of acupuncture and has endometriosis herself.
The event will include a question and answer session with the guest speakers and questions can be sent in advance to info@endo.ie
Information packs will also be made available to anyone who attends. These will include details on diagnosis of the condition, treatments available and tips for when attending medical appointments.
The Living Well With Endometriosis event will take place on Saturday, March 9, at the Spa Hotel in Lucan, from 1pm to 5pm. There is an entry fee of €2 per person.
To pre-register for the event, or for more information, email info@endo.ie or text 086 320 3855.
