The husband of Savita Halappanavar has said he does not want to meet with the chairman of the HSE inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her death at Galway University Hospital.
His solicitor, Gerard O’Donnell, said his client will not meet with the inquiry chairman, Professor Sabaratnam Arulkumaran, because that would be seen as acquiescing with the inquiry. Mr Halappanavar has criticised the format of the inquiry and has said the family will not cooperate with it.
The family wants a public inquiry and has said it does not want the HSE to be investigating itself.
Mr Happanavar's stance in the inquiry has not changed despite three Galway Hospital doctors having been removed from the inquiry team.
Praveen Halappanavar has said he will not meet the chairman of the Health Service Executive inquiry into his wife Savita's death.
In his first television interview in Ireland to be broadcast on RTE's Prime Time tonight, Mr Halappanavar says he will not meet the chairman of the HSE probe and wants a public inquiry funded by the Government.
Meanwhile, HIQA is due to hear back today from Galway Unoversity Hospital about safety issues it raised with it fiollowing the death of Savita Halappanavar.
