HSE to outline 2014 cuts tomorrow
December 17, 2013
-
The HSE will publish its service plan tomorrow, outlining its spending and cutback measures for 2014.
There will be an easing of the expected cuts target from €666 million to €619 million.
The previously targeted figure of cuts to the medical card scheme has been reduced from €113 million to €25 million, according to a independent.ie
The shortfall in the original savings target is to be made up by transferring money from the social welfare budget, where there are extra funds available due to the reduction in unemployment levels.
The Cabinet today signed off on the service plan.
The 2013 HSE service plan provided for around €720 million in health cuts. The HSE was recently given a supplementary allocation to make up for a shortfall of €199 millon in its budget at the end of this year.
