  • Older people who wish to have to avail of a free health screening can so this week as part of Hearing Awareness Week 2016.

The annual event, which runs from April 4-8, aims to raise awareness of hearing loss. It is run by Hidden Hearing in association with Active Retirement Ireland.

As part of this year's event, free health screenings are being offered at locations nationwide. These will offer a range of health checks, including hearing screening, ear wax removal, feet examinations and blood pressure checks.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for older people to take ownership of their own health and get expert advice on a number of topics under one roof. We hope that health checks and hearing checks become a real priority for our members," commented Active Retirment Ireland president, Mai Quaid.

The free health screening events will take place at the following locations between 9am and 5pm this week:
-The Gresham Hotel on Dublin's O'Connell Street on Monday, April 4
-The Metropole Hotel on Cork's MacCurtainStreet on Tuesday, April 5
-The Radisson BLU Hotel on Galway's Lough Atalia Road on Tuesday, April 5
-Dooley's Hotel in Merchant's Quay, Waterford, on Wednesday, April 6
-The Sheraton Hotel on Athlone's Gleeson Street on Thursday, April 7.
