October 28, 2013
-
Today is the first anniversary of the death of Savita Halappanavar at University Hospital Galway.
Candlelight vigils are being held around the country this evening this evening to mark her death.
Savita died a year ago in Galway University Hospital from septicaemia.
She was 17 weeks pregnant and was miscarrying and had asked for a termination early on in her hospital stay, but this was refused.
So far, three major investigations into the case have highlighted serious deficiencies into her care.
A negligence action is being taken by Savita's husband Praveen and the case has also been referred to the Medical Council and the Nursing Board.
