Dublin has secured a bid to host a major global event aimed at tackling bullying among young people.

The World Anti-Bullying Forum will take place in Dublin City University (DCU) next year. Over 700 people are expected at the event, which will see internationally recognised experts sharing their knowledge on a wide range of topics, including cyberbullying, sexting and violence.

The first World Anti-Bullying Forum took place in Stockholm in 2017 and involved 550 delegates from almost 40 countries. The Irish bid for the second forum was headed up by the National Anti-Bullying Research and Resource Centre in DCU.

The event will be organised by this centre in association with the US-based International Bullying Prevention Association.

"We are delighted to have won the bid to host the next World Anti-Bullying Forum at DCU and we are very excited because we have already secured some of the leading international experts on bullying and related issues.

"Bullying is a universal problem and so we have invited experts from every corner of the globe who will help us to deepen our knowledge and expand our skills in tackling bullying among children and young people," commented James O'Higgins Norman, director of the National Anti-Bullying Research and Resource Centre in DCU.

He added that he hopes this forum will have ‘a long-term impact on societies around the globe'.
