The number of school students who have been the victims of cyberbullying has jumped by 33% in the last year, a new survey has found.
According to the survey, which was carried out on behalf of the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals, 16% of young people have been bullied via text or the internet over the last year, a jump of a third since the year before.
Furthermore, almost one in 10 (9%) students admitted to cyberbullying compared to 5% last year.
The survey also found that 15% of parents never monitor their children's use of the internet, while just 26% monitor their child's online activities every day.
It also noted that just 12% of parents were aware that their child had ever been cyberbullied, indicating that many parents are unaware of what their children are going through.
The survey, which was carried out by Amarach Research, involved 1,000 adults and children.
