Conference to look at cancer survivorship

Over 800 cancer survivors and medical professionals are expected to attend a major conference on cancer survivorship in September.
The National Conference for Cancer Survivorship, which is free of charge, has been organised by the Irish Cancer Society (ICS). It aims to help those affected by the disease to tackle both the physical and emotional consequences which can arise following diagnosis and/or treatment.
The conference will include a range of Irish and international speakers who will discuss topics such as living with a cancer diagnosis, life after cancer treatment and mindfulness.
"This event is an essential part of the ICS's work. It is a great opportunity to engage with healthcare professionals working in the area of oncology, allowing us to share experiences and expertise.
"It is also where we hear from cancer patients and seek to understand and address the needs of the whole person and not just the cancer. It is my hope that attendees gain some insight, practical advice and tips to make a difference in their daily lives," commented Donal Buggy, head of services at the ICS.
The conference will form part of Cancer Week Ireland, an ICS initiative in conjunction with Trinity College Dublin, which will run from September 14-20. Events due to take place during this week include World Lymphoma Awareness Day (September 15) and Mouth Cancer Awareness Day (September 16).
The conference will take place on September 18-19 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. If you would like to register to attend, call Avril O'Sullivan on (01) 231 0553 or click here. For more information on Cancer Week Ireland, click here.
