A further 11 people with COVID-19 have died in the Republic.

One death that had previously been classed as COVID-related has been denotified, so the total number of deaths now stands at 1,571.

A further 64 cases of the virus have also been confirmed, bringing the total number of cases here to 24,315.

According to the Department of Health's deputy chief medical officer, Dr Ronan Glynn, of the 24,204 confirmed cases reported by midnight on Sunday night, 21,060 have recovered - that is 87% of all laboratory confirmed cases.

The vast majority of these have recovered in the community.

"This is very positive news, but should not deflect from the impact this disease has had on individuals and families. In addition, it does not change the risk for any one individual who is diagnosed with the disease today, or in the future.

"Public health advice is there to provide everyone with the best protection possible. Please follow it and continue to protect yourself and each other," he commented.

Meanwhile, data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre has shown that of the 24,204 cases reported by midnight on Sunday, 3,164 have been hospitalised and of these, 393 have been admitted to ICU.

Some 7,708 cases are associated with healthcare workers.
