A further 363 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Republic of Ireland, bringing the total number of cases to 35,740.

One more person with the virus has also died, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,803.

Of the 363 cases confirmed on Tuesday evening, 154 occurred in Dublin, 40 in Cork, 23 in Donegal, 16 in Wexford, 15 in Roscommon and 14 in both Galway and Monaghan.

There are currently 117 confirmed cases in hospitals nationwide, 18 of whom are in ICU. Meanwhile, over 87,700 tests have been completed in the last seven days, producing a positivity rate of 2.8%.

Commenting on the figures, the acting chief medical officer, Dr Ronan Glynn, said that "public buy-in and willingness to adhere to public health guidance remains the frontline of our defence against the spread of COVID-19".

He said that "the vast majority" of people are taking the necessary steps in their everyday lives to protect themselves and others, and he urged anyone who is experiencing symptoms to stay at home and contact their GP as soon as possible.

"If you have been informed that you are a close contact of someone who has the illness, please don't meet up with other people, including your family or friends, don't go to work or college, don't play sport, and avail of a test when it is offered.

"I know that these are difficult choices for people to make, but each individual effort will make a significant impact on the spread of this disease and, ultimately, on the numbers of deaths that we can prevent this winter," Dr Glynn added.
